ICI Roundtable
A Study of the Performance of Money Market Funds and the Short-Term Funding Markets During March 2020
Money market funds play a critical financing role in the US economy and provide a preferred vehicle for cash management for individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. As the leading association representing regulated funds globally, including sponsors of US money market funds, ICI has been at the forefront of the discussion around these funds.
Following reforms to money market funds in 2010, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) adopted further regulatory changes in 2014. These reforms impose significant structural changes across the industry, particularly on money market funds used by institutional investors. ICI worked with the SEC and with ICI members to ensure a smooth transition to these new rules.
